Frequently Asked Questions

What do I bring?

Please ensure you have your Payment Summary (Formerly group certificate), and any other income documentation you may have i.e. dividends, interest, rental etc. If you're not sure if something is needed, it is advisable to bring it.

Are my fees deductible?

Yes. Fees paid to a registered tax agent are fully tax deductible. This applies to the cost of tax returns, as well as advice, and dealing with penalties, objections and appeals. Travelling costs to see your tax agent are also deductible if using your own vehicle. The allowance for this is in addition to the 5000km limit for deductions and is calculated using the cents per kilometre method.

Can I have my fees deducted from my refund?

Yes. When a refund is due, we are happy to deduct our fees from your refund thus avoiding the need for fees to be paid upfront. This is one of the many convenient services we provide to reduce any stress you may feel.

How much will it cost?

Costs vary depending on the size and complexity of preparing your return. It should be remembered that in the majority of cases we will save you far more in your return than you pay in fees.

What can I claim?

This varies according to your field of employment. If you are unsure if an expense is a legal deduction, don't worry; we have access to the latest information and regulations relating to deductions, so bring the details with you and we'll do the rest.

How long does my tax return take to prepare?

Most individual & small business returns are prepared during the period of your appointment. We know your time is precious so if the preparation of your return requires a longer time due to size or complex issues, it may be left with us and we will contact you as soon as it's completed.

How long do I have to wait for my refund?

Unfortunately this depends on the Australian Tax Office. Tax-Aid is committed to delivering the most efficient service possible and submits all returns electronically, using the fastest and latest technology, to minimise time delays. Refunds can take as little as 3 working days or a maximum of 14 days.
